For years, the Delaware Community has come together to commemorate the valiant sacrifices of our veterans through the Delaware Veterans Parade. This annual event serves as a vivid testament to the unwavering spirit of our community, reminding us all of the brave souls who have selflessly served our country. Each parade carries a theme, a story, and a message – aiming to bridge the gap between generations and educate our younger community members about the significance of our veterans' contributions.
The 2023 parade, themed "Welcome Home," holds a special place in our hearts, primarily dedicated to honoring Vietnam veterans, particularly those from Delaware County who were killed in action during the conflict. It's not just a parade; it's a promise – a promise to ensure that these brave souls, and their families, know they are never forgotten. As the poignant words from Mayor Carolyn Riggle resonate, “they'll never be forgotten,” we aim to turn that into a lived reality, ensuring that our community remembers every name, every story, and every sacrifice.
What makes the Delaware Veterans Parade truly stand out is the remarkable involvement of our community. From our spirited marching bands like Delaware Hayes, Buckeye Valley, and Delaware Christian, to the heartfelt participation of families of the fallen, and the presence of esteemed guests like Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, it’s a collective effort. Our parade is a canvas of gratitude, painted with the hopes, memories, and respect of every single participant and spectator. We invite you to join this journey, as we march forward, honoring our heroes and forging bonds that last a lifetime.
